Learn to Skydive FAQs
Your Questions Answered
Everything You Need to Know
Who can learn to skydive?
Most people can learn to skydive!
What is the minimum age requirement for skydiving?
In the state of Iowa, anyone past their 18th birthday can come skydive.
Is there a maximum age limit for skydiving?
No. We have taken tandem passengers more than 100 years old!
Do I need any prior experience to start learning how to skydive?
No. All training can be done at Jump Omaha.
What does the training process involve?
For a tandem, you will meet your instructor and go over your responsibilities as well as what to expect on your jump. This process typically takes less than 30 minutes. If you are jumping solo with an instructor, there is extensive ground preparation made before your jump, typically at least a day of ground training is needed before we will take you in the plane.
How many jumps do I need to make before jumping solo?
Zero. First jump students in our IAD program can jump solo from their first skydive.
What kind of equipment will I use during the training program?
We have all of the equipment you need to make a jump. Our parachute equipment is the modern “square style” (not round) that can be steered in the sky.
How long does it take to become a licensed skydiver?
We have licensed people in as little as a week, most people take several months to get licensed.
What weather conditions can affect skydiving training?
Wind and clouds can affect your ability to skydive. For our solo students, we require the wind on the ground to be no more than 14 miles per hour. We can jump below the clouds but do not typically fall through them.
Are there any health requirements or restrictions for learning to skydive?
Yes. As we are not doctors, if you believe you have a condition that would prohibit you from skydiving please consult your physician.
What safety measures are in place during the training process?
We have complete training for emergencies that may happen in the aircraft and under parachute prior to every jump. Our equipment has an automatic activation device onboard in the event a student does not activate their parachute at the right time.
What happens if the parachute doesn't open during a jump?
All skydiving equipment is required to have a second parachute available in case the first one does not work properly. Training on how to activate this second parachute will be given to all solo students.
Can I continue skydiving after obtaining my license?
We hope so! Skydiving is an enjoyable and invigorating activity that should be enjoyed with friends!
Is skydiving a year-round activity, or are there seasonal limitations?
We skydive year round. In colder temperatures on the ground, we bundle up to keep warm.
